Florida Migrant Advisory Council Meeting

The first meeting of the Florida Migrant Parent Advisory Council (FMPAC) for the 2017-2018 school year took place at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Florida on January 19 & 20, 2018. Maria Segura welcomed members and called the meeting to order; eleven members attended. The agenda and minutes from the previous meeting were approved. The next meeting will be March 23 & 24, 2018 in Tampa, Florida.

Mrs. Di Salvo provided parent members information about the migrant program and asked parents to give their input of what is working and what needs improvement.

Mr. Padilla went over the classroom set up which is one of the major change in education. He discussed the different assessments the students are taking. He also gave members ideas on how to prepare students for these assessments.

Mrs. Rivera gave members a presentation on how to assist out of school youth. She provided members with resources available for out of school youth, depending on their
needs.

Parenting Counts: Rough Day

Dr. Pouncey gave members a presentation on the way adults handle stress could affect the way their children handle stress. She demonstrated the effects of repeated stress on infants and young children.
