Florida Migrant Advisory Council Meeting

The second meeting of the Florida Migrant Parent Advisory Council (FMPAC) for the 2017-2018 school year took place at Embassy Suites in Tampa, Florida on March 23 & 24, 2018. Maria Segura welcomed members and called the meeting to order; ten members attended. The agenda and minutes from previous meeting were approved. The next meeting will be April 20 & 21, 2018 in Fort Myers, Florida.

Suwannee County Coordinator

Ms. Torres provided members with information about MSIX. She mentioned this is an initiative program to help states electronically ex-change information of migrant students among the states.

Mrs. Segura and Mrs. Beltran shared with members their presentation on how parents can help their children accomplish their dreams. Mrs. Segura and Mrs. Beltran will present at the 2018 National Migrant Education Conference in Portland, Oregon.

College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) & High School Equivalency Program (HEP)

Ms. Luis provided information the opportunities CAMP offers to migrant students. She shared the requirements needed to attend a CAMP program. Also, Ms. Luis provided members with resources to help their students into this program. Ms. Mendez provided information about HEP and the purpose of this program. She also reviewed the requirements for HEP.

Florida PASS Program


Mr. Spencer provided members with information about the PASS program. Also how convenient it is for migrant students needing to recover credits or need credits to graduate.

Toxic Stress

Dr. Natalia Falcon
FSU College of Medicine


Dr. Falcon provided members with information on the differ-ences between stress and toxic stress. She gave members re-sources to use and share if they are feeling or know someone who is suffering from toxic stress.
