Migrant Parent Of The Year
Padre Migrante del Año

Picture
Laura Beltran was born in Hammond, Indiana where she graduated high school. She is the mother of 5 children ranging from 9-year-old twins to age 22. Mrs. Beltran has been a migrant all her life. She started in the fields at age 11 with her parents. As a young student Laura migrated from Florida to Indiana and Michigan to pick backbreaking pickles, tomatoes and cherries. She continues to migrate from Dade City to Gobles, Michigan where she picks kumquats and blueberries.

The reason she became involved in her children's education was because she feels she did not encourage her older children who have graduated high school to continue their education. Both are contemplating continuing their education. She learned that it is important to encourage her children at a young age. She currently has children in 8th grade, 4th grade and 3rd grade.

Mrs. Beltran served on the FMPAC from September 2015 to May 2019. She is very passionate about serving parents and districts. As the FMPAC president 2018/2019, Mrs. Beltran continuously encourage other migrant parents on the importance of consistently communicating with their children and their schools. She is passionate about being the voice for parents who do not know where to begin regarding their child's education.

Laura Beltran
